Protect Workers from Silicosis: Best Practices & Prevention

The Australian Institute of Health & Safety invites you to join our upcoming webinar titled: Protecting Workers from Silicosis: Best Practices and Prevention Strategies being held on Tuesday 4 June, 2024.

The webinar will include a presentation by Dr Simon Apte Chief Scientist Tradie Health Institute and Peter Aspinall Principal Occupational Hygienist (COH, MAIOH, NZOHS) WSP in Australia & New Zealand and cover the following:

1. Understanding of Silicosis: Participants will gain a clear understanding of the definition, causes, common industries, and job roles at risk of silicosis. They will also comprehend the health impacts and risks associated with silica exposure.

2. Knowledge of Prevention Strategies: Attendees will learn about various prevention strategies aligned with Safe Work Australia guidelines. This includes understanding the importance of engineering controls such as ventilation, dust suppression, and enclosures, as well as the role of personal protective equipment (PPE) like respirators in mitigating silica dust exposure. They will also learn proper work practices and training required for silica handling and exposure reduction, along with regulatory compliance and standards for silica exposure limits.

The second half of the webinar will include a panel discussion, where participants will gain insights into the latest research and developments in silicosis prevention and treatment, as presented by Dr. Simon Apte. They will also understand the importance of respirator selection and fit testing, as emphasised by Peter Aspinall. There will be an opportunity for Q&A from the audience.
