Understanding Workplace Dust, Fumes & Fibres

Understanding dusts, fumes, and fibres is paramount for safety professionals, primarily due to the significant health risks they pose to workers.

Based on BoK Chapter 17.3: Dust, Fumes & Fibres, this course covers some underpinning science to understand the different hazards and how they become consequences as well as the practical application of controls from a safety perspective.

Why This Course Is Different

Unlike traditional training, this is an adaptive learning course. That means:

  • The learning path automatically adjusts to your existing level of knowledge, so you skip what you already know and focus on what you need
  • You progress faster—cutting the time to competency significantly—while ensuring you master all key concepts and skills
  • Real-world examples and scenarios are safety specific, making learning immediately relevant

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Define airborne contaminants and categorise them by physical state
  • Explain the factors contributing to the resurgence and extent of occupational diseases caused by DFF, and describe the associated acute and chronic health effects
  • Identify the legal and regulatory requirements for managing DFF, including the purpose of workplace exposure standards and the importance of compliance
  • Describe the hierarchy of control measures and apply prevention and control strategies to minimise workplace exposure to DFF
  • Recognise the role of safety professionals in DFF management and assess the importance of staying informed about emerging hazards and continuously improving workplace safety practices

Who's it For
