Media Release: Nation's Best in Workplace Health & Safety Named
Date: 30/08/2024
Australia’s best employers for workplace health and safety (WHS) have been honoured at a national awards night in Sydney, held Thursday, 29 August 2024.
A record 141 entries were made across 11 categories at the Australian Workplace Health and Safety Awards, including WHS Champion of the Year, Best Health and Wellbeing Program, and Best WHS Technology Innovation.
Australian Institute of Health and Safety (AIHS) CEO Julia Whitford said the awards were an important opportunity to recognise the hard work of individuals and workplaces striving to ensure employees are well taken care of.
“Every year, around 180 people tragically lose their lives in Australian workplaces and we know, one death is too many,” Ms Whitford said.
“These awards have been running for four years to celebrate the endeavours of individuals and companies who are implementing new programs, educating, and leading in a way that protects the health and wellbeing of their employees, which in turn improves the safety of all Australian workplaces.”
Ms Whitford said the judges were full of praise for this year’s entries and enjoyed reviewing the impact of a person or project in the WHS space.
“The judges look at how the person or initiative demonstrated need, process, measurable impact and longevity – and the standouts were those that demonstrated change felt by not only the people involved, but the wider business, and the industry as a whole,” she said.
“While the two technology categories continued to receive high attention, the greatest number of entries was submitted into the Best Health and Wellbeing Program award category. This is indicative of some of the major challenges organisations currently face and sets a great example of how workplaces are providing their employees with additional support.
“A huge congratulations to all our finalists and winners.”
AIHS would also like to thank Zenergy Safety, Health & Wellbeing for its ongoing partnership in delivering the Australian Workplace Health and Safety Awards, as well as Award Sponsors Curtain University, ecoPortal, Endeavour Energy, Amazon, and BGIS.
