MEDIA ALERT: THE EASTER BUNNY IS NOT THE ONLY ONE WORKING THESE HOLIDAYS – ROAD SAFETY PLEA
Date: 04/04/25
Australia’s leading workplace health and safety organisation is pleading with drivers to take it easy these school holidays, reminding them roads are workplaces too.
The Australian Institute of Health and Safety (AIHS) Chair, Cameron Montgomery, said it was important to be considerate of workers going about their everyday duties.
“It’s not just the Easter Bunny working hard this Easter break. Workers right across the country will continue using the roads as a workplace over the long weekendand school holiday period, so please, be courteous, slow down, and do your part to help everyone get to their destination safely,” Mr Montgomery said.
Hundreds of thousands of Australian workers from a range of industries rely on the road as their workplace, including:
- Emergency services, including police, paramedics, and fire response
- Transport and logistics workers, such as heavy vehicle operators, livestock transporters, grain and produce haulers, and milk tanker drivers
- Couriers and food delivery drivers
- Bus, taxi, and rideshare drivers
- Roadside assistance and tow truck operators
- Entertainment providers, market stall and food truck operators
- Construction and maintenance workers
- Home care providers and mobile nurses.
